BOSIET Training (Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training)
When you are going to be doing any kind of work on an offshore asset, such as a drill rig, production platform or FPSO, for corporations in any country, you will be required to do specialized offshore safety and emergency training. Without completing an offshore survival course, regardless of the amount of time you intended to spend working for the company, you will not be allowed to participate. Fortunately, there is a comprehensive program that enables workers to become certified in the safety standards that they must know so that they can perform their work properly. Offshore Training Headquarters have outlined what BOSIET Training is all about and will give you a basic idea of what to expect from BOSIET Training.
BOSIET Training Certification
The most important thing that anyone who will be working offshore needs to have in mind and be properly trained in is safety. Your safety is of the utmost importance when you are doing such hands on work. There is a popular, required course that will help to teach you about all of the many hazards that you will encounter during your work and the many safety precautions, equipment and procedures that are in place to help mitigate these hazards. This program is the BOSIET or Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training.
BOSIET Training is:
- A comprehensive, 3-day course
- A program that will have students properly trained and prepared to begin working on offshore assets
- Created and maintained by the industry owned non-profit group OPITO, the sole purpose of which is to service the needs of the Oil and Gas Industry
The standards set forth and adhered to by OPITO are Industry approved and employer led, so that all future employees are held to the same rigorous safety training standards.
BOSIET Training Program
The course will give students an awareness of the hazards that will be encountered when traveling to and from offshore applications, offshore safety plans and management systems.
It will include:
- Practical and theoretical training related to survival at sea
- Understanding first aid procedures
- Basic fire-fighting and self-rescue
- Helicopter escape and proper helicopter safety
Each of these courses combined will help the graduate to perform their offshore work at the highest level, avoiding mishaps and having an understanding of how to safely handle any situations that come their way. Upon completion of the 3-day course, the graduates will be certified in the Industry standards for 4 years. Before this expires, the worker must complete the FOET (Further Offshore Emergency Training) to renew or they will have to repeat the BOSIET Training program again.
Delegates must be 16 years of age to participate in BOSIET Training. Delegates must have been evaluated by a medical professional prior to starting.
Delegates should bring:
- Medical form
- Government issued ID
- Swimwear and a towel
- Change for their locker
Upon completion the delegates will be well-versed in basic offshore safety and emergency training and ready to work on any offshore asset.
Offshore Training Headquarters do not arrange courses. We simply strive to provide you with the best information possible, so you can work your way in the offshore industry.
